For a long time, Hütter‹s (1563–1616) compendium was the most common textbook of Lutheran orthodoxy and was widely distributed. In a clear, concise and impressive manner, it imparts insight into the Lutheran theology of the 17th century. The compendium by the professor who was working in Wittenberg was published in 1610 in Latin, in 1613 in German and was then published in a bilingual edition for use in schools. This indispensable source for all those studying the 17th century has now been made available once again as a critical annotated edition with parallel Latin and German texts. There is a separate volume containing the English translation of the compendium published in 1868. A detailed afterword provides an introduction to the history of its origins and its impact.
